SOUTHBRIDGE FIRE STATION

BUILDING PROJECT

ABOUT

The Southbridge Fire Station is more than 120 years old and does not efficiently support the operations of a 21st century fire department. The purpose of this web site is to provide information to the Southbridge community on the facility study process to address the needs of the fire station.

EXISTING

Trucks and equipment barely fit through the doors, decontamination of trucks and gear is done outdoors, and the building does not meet many local, state and federal codes including ADA accessibility. These are just a few of the inefficiencies of the existing Southbridge Fire Station.

PLANS

Plans and Renderings for a Worcester Street location have been developed and are available for viewing.

PROJECT UPDATES

March-April, 2024

The remediation and demolition of the two residential properties on Snow Street is nearly complete. Once the debris has been removed the site will be finished with mulch for dust control. The department was very fortunate to conduct firefighter self-rescue and vertical (roof) ventilation training prior to the demolition process.

On March 9th, 2024, President Biden signed H.R. 4366, Consolidated Appropriations Act 2024 into law, the final step in the government funding process. This piece of legislation funds the Department of Agriculture for FY24 and included funding in the amount of $1,000,000 for Construction of the Southbridge Fire Station. Although less than originally anticipated, this closes the funding gap identified by December 2023 project bid process.
