On April 17th, 2025, the Fire Station Building Committee reviewed bids received from five general contractors. The committee voted unanimously to recommend to Town Council to allow the Town Manager to enter into a contract with PDS Engineering & Construction Inc. as the lowest responsible bidder for the construction of the new Southbridge Fire Station.
On April 28th, The Town Council voted 7 YES 0 NO to award the Southbridge Fire Station Project to PDS Engineering & Construction Inc. as the responsive and responsible company offering the lowest base bid of $19,940,000.00 plus alternate No. 1 for $60,000.00 for a total contract amount of $20,000,000.00 and allow the Town Manager to sign all related paperwork and contracts.
The majority of the funding to complete this project comes from the $25.7 million dollar debt exclusion voted in 2021. In addition, the Town has gained a $1 million-dollar CDS grant through the USDA as well as $913,000.00 through another USDA program. In June of 2024, an additional $1 million dollars was earmarked from free cash for the completion of the project by Town Council. This $1 million will be held as contingency and will only be utilized, if necessary.
The current total budget for the project is $28,613,000.00. To date, $5,025,273.81 has been spent.
The Fire Station Building Committee and current project team members look forward to working with PDS Engineering & Construction Inc. moving forward.
